Apprenticeships
PIA Group Training Scheme
In response to an industry need for a more tailored and responsive group training scheme Plumbing Industry Association Group Training (PIA GT) was formed in 2006.
PIA GT offers Group Training services to members and non-members of the association. Group Training is a simple and cost effective option for the professional who needs and wants to get on with the business of plumbing and not be encumbered with human resource issues related to apprentices.
PIA GT is the legal employer of the apprentice and Group Training allows you to ‘lease’ an apprentice from PIA GT at a cost which includes Base Wage and award allowances plus oncosts. PIA GT receives subsidies to reduce overhead costs and these are passed onto the host employer.
We look after everything!
PIA GT will manage the selection, recruitment, interviews at your premises or ours, signing of Contracts of Training, Training Plan and registration for training at TAFE. We also do all paperwork associated with indenturing of apprentices, apprentice registration with Office of Consumer & Business Affairs and CITB, induction, safety checks, inclusion in WorkCover, Superannuation and Long Service Leave registration.
Services we provide
PIA GT discusses and clarifies the specific needs of individual host employers and
provides a service that best fits that need.
Jointly we discuss requirements such as the type of plumbing service provided by
the host employer, attributes required of apprentices, year level of apprentice,
duration of placement, and on job rotational requirements.
Minimum placement period is 90 days.
Call the PIA on 8292 4000 and discuss the benefits of our GT program.
Selection & Recruitment
All PIA GT candidates undergo a rigorous selection process conducted by a panel of experienced and qualified trainers and plumbing industry professionals and includes:
Assessment Tool which is aimed at 3rd year apprenticeship level. It has an
anticipated achievement percentage of 60% and contains assessment in;
-basic understanding of plumbing trade
-geometry mathematics
-English language
-lateral thought
-spatial perspective
-drawing and design
-safety.
Interview Process
We understand that academic aptitude is not necessarily the only and most
important attribute for an apprentice.
Our interview process targets attitude, work ethic, character, emotional maturity, enthusiasm, understanding of basic safety principles and communication skills.
Making it easy for you
Tailored standard services to your needs
Flexibility in the duration of placement providing training outcomes are met. If you are unable to continue with the placement it is our responsibility to find another placement for the apprentice. 10 working days notice for suspension or cancellation of a placement is required.
All paperwork, registrations, maintenance and legal requirements managed by
PIA GT
PIA GT Apprentices become members of PIA and have the opportunity to attend PIA training programs such as EcoSmart, Working with Asbestos, Thermostatic Mixing Valves, Backflow Prevention, etc during their Apprenticeship.
All PIA GT Apprentices will undergo PIA Safety Induction course as a minimum and
complete Whitecard training as soon as a course is available.
